MER® – Mental and Emotional
What is Mental and Emotional Release® Therapy?
MER stands for Mental and Emotional Release® Therapy. Mental and Emotional Release® Therapy is a clinically researched approach to help you release stress, anxiety, fear and other negative emotions. You will be able to utilize MER to overcome procrastination, depression and phobias.
The MER model has become widely known as the most effective method for creating quick, lasting change for an individual. Combining this with NLP provides an innovative approach to understanding and directing human experience, communication and behavior.
Mental and Emotional Release® Therapy was created by applying a therapeutic process to the concept of an internal memory storage system. The result is a collection of techniques which produces long-lasting transformation very quickly-faster than what is currently called Brief Therapy. These powerful MER techniques are becoming the method of choice to make fast, effective, long-term changes in behavior.
Throughout history, humankind has been aware of the passage of time. Aristotle was the first to mention the “stream of time” in his book Physics IV. William James spoke of linear memory storage as early as 1890. Finally, the concept, nearly forgotten, was revived in the late 1970’s by the developers of NLP.
Your “Time Line” is how you unconsciously store your memories or how you unconsciously know the difference between a memory from the past and a projection of the future. Behavioral change in an individual takes place at an unconscious level. People don’t change consciously. The MER process allows you to work at the unconscious level and release the effects of past negative experiences and change “inappropriate” programming in minutes rather than days, months or years.
Mental and Emotional Release® Therapy adds current research and it focuses on the application of the technique in different modalities. Business requires a much different approach than self-help. Therefore, Dr. Matt has created different approaches based on the different modalities.
Mental & Emotional Release (MER©) therapy is a fast and effective way of letting go of negative emotions (fear, anger, sadness, hurt, and guilt). It utilizes visualization, hypnotherapy, and NLP to treat depression, trauma, phobias, or other major or minor “stuff”.
Have you ever felt out-of-control emotionally?
Have you fallen short of your goals again and again?
Are you anxious about certain settings and situations?
Have you ever over-reacted to a minor situation in a major way?
Chances are, you’re behaving in a such a way as a result of a habit. We have learned ways to act and react based on past experiences as coping mechanisms (favorable and unfavorable protective measures for self preservation), which in turn create behaviors (desirable and undesirable), which become unconscious habits. When negative emotions are suppressed (consciously or unconsciously, usually the latter) they stack on top of each other, creating similar events and escalated charge. A charge that continues to grow until we learn to let-go and move-on.
Luckily, we are not our behaviors, emotions, or habits; We are much more and we can change. With (MER©), change happens fast and in such a way that it releases the negative response/emotion at the root, creating lasting change. Change that stops the cycle of repeated behavior and attracting similar learning experiences, so that you can let go and move on.
Unlike traditional therapy, digging into and reliving past experiences, trauma, etc., is unnecessary with this technique which makes it a desirable therapy for those hard life experiences we all go through, but perhaps, don’t care to relive. Overall, (MER©) is a technique that releases negative emotions at the root cause and can be implemented into our daily lives as new things come up, therefore, preventing future build-up of negative emotions. A skill and technique that could be used to change our communities and our lives.
As an application of NLP, Mental and Emotional Release® Therapy is a collection of techniques that allow you to gain emotional control over your life. Inappropriate emotional reactions, such as bursts of anger, periods of apathy, depression, sadness, anxiety, and chronic fear, are responsible for preventing people from achieving the quality of life they desire. Limiting decisions, such as “I’m not good enough,” “I’ll never be rich,” or “I don’t deserve a great marriage,” create false limitations and hamper your ability to create reachable and attainable goals and outcomes. Mental and Emotional Release® Therapy enables you to eliminate many types of issues in your past, thus allowing you to move forward toward your goals and desires.
What Causes Emotional Trauma?
Everything children feel, see, hear and experience is stored in their subconscious memory banks, and used to form a set of emotional memories, beliefs and philosophies about themselves and the world around them.
For instance, if they are upset after getting into trouble then they may conclude (and store this emotion and a belief) that “they can’t do anything right and will always fail.” If they are distressed by bullies in school, they may conclude (and store this emotion and a belief) that “they are worthless and deserve it so no-one will ever love them.”
The person who believes they can’t do anything right will continually relive the experience of failure, from a variety of perspectives, and feel the combined emotions from all repeats. Likewise, the person who believes that they can’t trust will continually relive this emotional experience in all relationships as their partners cheat or leave them. And so on…
This is why emotions are far stronger and more painful than expected. They are not the emotions arising from a single incident, but a combination of many incidences, often over many years. During each repeat, the emotions are combined with those from the previous repeat, and continually grow in strength and intensity.
Emotional trauma is not limited to horrific physical or sexual abuse (though of course, it often can be) but is also the impact of continued repeats of emotionally distressing experiences – and their associated beliefs that were created by a small child decades prior.
Only when these emotions and beliefs are addressed head-on in their subconscious storehouse, can they be dealt with and let go forever.
Luckily, we are not our behaviors, emotions, or habits; We are much more and we can change. With (MER©), change happens fast and in such a way that it releases the negative response/emotion at the root, creating lasting change.
